Our methodology

How we conduct an audit — from automated technical analysis through AI-assisted remediation suggestions to validation by a certified human auditor.

Criterio combines automated technical analysis with human expert review. Every finding in a report has passed through both machine and human before it reaches you.

How an audit is conducted

  • 1. Automated technical analysis — Our scanner reads structural and technical properties of the page: HTML elements, headings (H1, H2 …), ARIA attributes, CSS, link structure, tab order, and similar technical details.
  • 2. AI-assisted remediation suggestions — From the structural findings, an AI assistant generates suggestions for how each issue can be remediated. Suggestions are based only on the nature of the findings — not on page content.
  • 3. Certified human auditor review — Every finding and suggestion is reviewed, validated, and where needed adjusted by a certified human auditor before the report is delivered.
  • 4. Re-audit tracking — To track changes between audits we store which pages fail specific WCAG criteria, along with a checksum per page that detects whether content has changed since the previous audit.

No site content is stored

Our analysis looks at how a page is built — not what it says. We do not store any text, images, documents, or personal data from your pages. We also do not store visitor data or any personal information about end users of your site.

What is stored between audits is structural findings (which WCAG criteria a page fails) and a checksum per page — a short hash string that indicates whether content has changed, without revealing the content itself.

AI processing is handled via Anthropic's API (Claude). Only anonymised structural findings are transmitted — never page content.

AI-generated remediation suggestions are just that — suggestions. They are validated by a certified auditor but do not constitute legal advice. For legal interpretation of WCAG, EAA, or GDPR requirements, consult your legal advisor.
